WatchGuard Technologies Prevails in Cybersquatter Suit
The United States District Court for the Western District of Washington (Judge Pechman) granted WatchGuard Technologies, Inc.'s motion for default judgment in WatchGuard's lawsuit against a cybersquatter. The court awarded WatchGuard statutory damages of $25,000 along with attorney's fees. WatchGuard had earlier prevailed in its opposition to a motion to dismiss for lack of personal jurisdiction filed by the defendant, who had no contacts with Washington other than the infringing domain name. WatchGuard was represented by Jim Murray and Christie Snyder of GMT and Thomas Gray of Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP.
