GMT Secures Landmark Victory Against King County Tax Assessor
Gordon Murray Tilden achieved a landmark settlement in Harley H. Hoppe & Associates v. King County and Scott Noble, King County Assessor. The case was brought under the Washington State Public Disclosure Act, with the purpose of compelling the King County Assessor to produce computerized data for the roughly 600,000 real property tax parcels in King County. The case was hotly contested during motion practice and discovery, including an interlocutory effort by the Assessor to have the matter resolved by the state Court of Appeals. Jeff Tilden took the matter to trial on January 14, 2002, and settled on the third day for an agreement by the Assessor to produce all of the information requested by Hoppe & Associates and to pay 100 percent of Hoppe & Associates’ attorneys’ fees. The computerized data will be available no later than October 2002 for purchase by all members of the public and will be updated thereafter on a monthly basis.
